If You Garden, You Need a Good Hoe.
My love of gardening leads me to try to find tools which make tasks easier. A gardener can try every type of hoe possible and not find one that really suits. I have three favorites: one made out of an old tractor implement disc that can dig like anything, my Japanese draw hoe, and my Japanese hand draw hoe.

I bought my first draw hoe probably twenty years or more ago. I now own two, plus two hand draw hoes. There isn’t anything else I’ve tried which makes weeding easier than these tools. You simply keep them sharp and then when you “draw” them along the ground, they slice through weeds. If you’re serious about gardening, I’d suggest you make the investment.

James 4: 8 Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind.
This scripture comes to mind because of the obvious, the word “draw”. James is one of my favorite books in the Bible, one which needs read very often. If anything in my life needs a draw hoe, it would be my mind. There are thought weeds that pop up all the time and the need to remove them is constant. That’s the theme most of my posts seem to be taking, that a life of Faith is one which takes constant maintenance. There are times I let the garden of my mind overgrow with weeds and then the task of cleaning it up takes more effort. God provides me with prayer so that I can allow Him to help me hoe out the unnecessary thoughts. Music is another method which allows me to chop down the clutter. Or sit down and read James or Ecclesiastes or your favorite passage. Just remember that you’re never done weeding in your life.
Warning!
(On another note, if you find yourself forgetting the name of the Japanese draw hoe so you can look it up on the Internet, DO NOT search for Japanese drag hoe…Yikes!)
